Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some commonly asked questions! Feel free to email us if you can think of any other questions you may want to ask.
Q. My appointment is coming up soon and I haven't heard anything from my artist! We booked an appointment weeks ago and I left a deposit.
A. We don't have a shop manager or automated system for sending out online reminders for appointments. Once you book an appointment with us and leave a deposit, you are scheduled in! But we welcome clients to reach out a week before their date to check in, add more to their concept, request a sketch, and to confirm date and time. Usually this is done through the artists email or social media. If we have any questions we do reach out prior to the appointment, but once you're on our schedule we always assume you are coming in.
Q. Can I see a drawing before I leave a deposit to make sure I like it?
A. We do not draw anything out without a deposit. We also do not tend to draw our pieces until the week of the appointment, so the piece is fresh in our head.

Q. Do you sell or apply numbing creams? Can I bring my own?
A. We do not sell or apply numbing cream for you for your appointment. Creams have their own risks and the shop isn't liable for any reactions or complications during healing caused by the creams. If using it, let your artist know ahead of time and do a small test spot on the area to be tattooed a week before the appointment, watch for any irritation or allergic reactions.

Q. Do you accept credit cards?
A. No, we are a cash only shop, although some artists have a venmo set up for deposits or tipping. Final payment though must be cash.

Q. Do you take Walk-ins?
A. Yes we do! But we cannot always guarantee them. We have 3 to 4 artists in at a time and one of them is a piercer. If we have a scheduled client in the chair, please be prepared to wait for a time later on in the evening. For complicated pieces like a cover up or full sleeve, its encouraged to come in for a consult and schedule an appointment since these take a lot of time to plan out. If we have walk-in availability we usually have our neon sign on in the front window.

Q. Should I shave before the appointment?
A. No, we don't mind shaving you, in fact it's probably safer to avoid any nicks or razor burn. Especially if it's in a hard to reach spot. If you are self conscious of your body hair, feel free to wax before the appointment.

Q. Hey I saw this tattoo/flash on the internet done by another artist. Can you copy this on me?
A. Our work is completely custom and we do not take another artists work without their permission. We do accept 'artist tokens' if you have proven permission from the artist, or if you're recreating the tattoo of someone you know as a memorial. We can take a concept or idea and recreate it in our own style so it is still an original design. We make an exception for artwork related to a franchise, media, logo, and officially licensed art by a company. So things like cartoon characters, album covers, sports logos, famous works of art that are under public domain, and similar things are ok.
Q. Do you currently do Apprenticeships?
A. At this time no. When we do we work with the artist until they're self sufficient which could take up to a year, and we don't like to have multiple ones at once.

Q. So like, are you ladies super into that In A Gadda Da Vida song?
A. So we aren't super fans of the band Iron Butterfly! The original owner of the shop loved classic rock and wanted a name that felt both feminine and masculine at the same time, and here we are.

Q. What should I wear to the appointment?
A. So your artist will give you a more specific answer but here is the general gist. If you're getting a backpiece done, wear a zip hoodie or button up shirt backwards, so you can stay warm and covered. If you're getting a thigh or lower torso tattoo, wear a flowy skirt or baggy gym shorts, or bathing suit bottom if comfortable. For sternum or stomach, a zip up hoodie or button up, we can use tape to keep it from shifting around and we also have pasties for clients comfortable with them and fake walls. For lower arms and legs, again baggy clothes, something you can roll up and not cut off circulation. Also, wear dark colors and clothes you wouldn't mind getting a little dirty just in case. You can also bring a change of clothes or a clean mini throw to the appointment too.

Q. I'm less than 18 years old, but both of my parents are super ok with me getting a tattoo and they come in to sign a consent form, so can I get that tattoo?
A. Sorry! It is violation of Section 260.21 of New York State Penal Law to tattoo minors under the age of 18, regardless of parental consent

Q. I don't really do social media or emails, can I get my artist's cellphone number so I can call or text them directly?
A. No, we do not give out our artist's personal info. We try and keep our work life and home life separate, and have had too many people not respect these boundaries.
